On Saturday, May 5 from 10 am to noon, the Lawrence Historical Society will celebrate the 7th anniversary of the restoration of the 1761Brearley House. In addition to the regular monthly open house, the Society will greet spring-time in the Great Meadow with Brownie Girl Scouts of Troop 1709 circling around a ribbon-trimmed May Pole and Princeton’s River Morris dancers. Puritans once denounced Morris dancers as “heathen company” with “handkerchiefs fluttering over their heads and bells on their legs like devils incarnate.” The Great Meadow surrounding the 1761 Brearley House is at the end of Meadow Road, a historic road leading from Princeton Pike past the Princessville Cemetery.
