Proposed Amendments to The LHS Constitution and By Laws …

The following changes to the Lawrence Historical Society (LHS) Constitution and By-Laws will be voted on at the Annual Meeting:

CONSTITUTION

Section 5. NOMINATING COMMITTEE Currently reads: “to nominate officers for election...". It is recommended that it read; ..."to nominate trustees for election...".
ADD to Section 11.  The Executive Committee shall consist of the officers of the Society: namely, President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and immediate Past President.  The Committee shall have the power and responsibility to act as a Board when issues and requests cannot wait until the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Trustees.  Any member of the Committee may call for a meeting to convene, and a quorum shall be three officers.  The Committee shall report any action to the next meeting of the Board of Trustees.
 
BY-LAWS

Section 4.  THE TREASURER Currently reads: "The Treasurer's accounts shall be audited annually by two independent reviewers recommended by the President and approved by a majority of the Board, such audit to be held no later than January 31st for Treasurer's Report at the Annual Meeting."
DELETE: "audited by two independent reviewers recommended by the President and approved by a majority of the Board, such audit to be held no later than January 31st for Treasurer's Report at the Annual Meeting." It is recommended that it read: "The Treasurer's accounts shall be reviewed annually by a professional service."
Section 8. GIFTS IN KIND Currently reads:  "The Acquisitions Committee shall consist of a full quorum of the Board of Trustees." It is recommended that it read:  "The Acquisitions Committee shall be appointed by the Board of Trustees."
Section 9. ORDER OF BUSINESS Currently reads: Election of Officers and Trustees at the regular annual meeting." It is recommended that it read:  11.  Election of Trustees at the regular annual meeting."
Section 10. AMENDMENTS Currently reads:  “provided that the proposition to add to or amend shall have been made at a previous meeting." It is recommended that it read: "provided that the proposition to add to or amend shall have been made in writing to the membership prior to the annual meeting."

Martha Leigh Wolf

Lawrence Historic Society is pleased to annouce that Martha Leigh Wolf, Executive Director of Historic Morven will be the guest speaker at the 2008 Annual Meeting. The topic of Ms. Wolf's talk will be the 225th Anniversary of Princeton serving as the nation's capital. Ms. Wolf is the chair of the 1783 steering committee that is preparing the year-long anniversary celebration that will begin in June 2008.
